Summer Services
As with all Advances services, out summer groups use research-validated teaching methods and collect data to track progress objectively. For 7 weeks July 7 - August 20, we offer afternoon classes for the ages 3-12. Because our students are at camp or school during the day, we make sure afternoon classes are fun and productive. During the last 3 weeks of summer, we offer a morning Summer Gap Program before the kids go back to school. Groups and instructors are supported by Board Certified Behavior Analysts. And they're going to be a BLAST!!
For years we have been hearing from parents that there are several weeks between camp and school when their kids are not engaged in meaningful activities. So, this year we are providing a program for students during that down-time between when camps end and school begins. Groups of 4 - 5 children will spend 3 hours daily in exciting in-door group activities, with 2 trained staff to facilitate social interaction and create opportunities for language use and incidental instruction. In addition to the indoor camp/classroom activities, there will also be direct language and social instruction each day. Groups will be overseen by a BCBA and run by trained ABA instructors. 1:1 aides are available. Intakes must be completed by August 7, so please turn in your application by July 31 if possible. Download the application.

Parents have been asking for language tutoring and language groups for a long time....here they are! Language Boosters class will provide students with the individualized language instruction many of them need in requesting, labeling, sentence structure, question-asking, and other functional communication skills. Direct instruction and incidental teaching in a primarily 1:1 format will supplement their days at camp. These classes entail 4 hours per week of individually-tailored instruction in your child's language objectives.

Video, role-play, stories, and theatre projects target perspective-taking in a group format. Students with competent language skills who can participate in group activities will work on recognizing others' complex emotions and intentions, predicting others' behavior, and inferring others' thoughts. This will include critical skills that every child needs to fit in at school, including distinguishing sarcasm, avoiding sounding "bossy," and showing empathy (to name a few).

Regular practice with play-date skills in a supported setting can greatly improve your child's social skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships. Students will work on skills specific to their needs; this may include sharing, turn-taking, staying with their friend, and compromising on choices. Students will role-play a play-date from beginning to end with a peer of a similar age.
